Blessing

Yesterday was my sweet Walker's blessing day!
Had a hard time getting him to smile. But here's a cute one.
Had a lovely time with all our family there.
I love finally having a house big enough to have all our family over.

Proof Practice Does NOT Make Perfect

I don't like store bought cake... I don't like the frosting made of grease, the texture of the cake, etc. So I make my own cakes (sometimes from scratch, sometimes boxed-- but I still think better than grocery store cakes--premium bakery cakes are another story... they're good but very expensive). Anyway... my cake decorating has gone from slightly below average to Ridiculously, embarassingly terrible. Pictures to prove point:

Sav's first bday... definitely looks homemade, but isn't too bad.

her 3rd b-day... tried some piping and new techniques. Learned cream cheese frosting doesn't decorate well. this is suppose to be a carousel cake. dorky attempt but still looking okay (and very homemade right)
Nomi's first birthday... this is getting embarassing.
last night's attempt. cake completely didn't come out of pan
tried to salvage it. Ridiculous! See, every attempt I've made is worse!
This cake did not make an appearance at the birthday party (it's suppose to be Hello Kitty)
Luckily I had made cupcakes also.
Savannah didn't know what to say to this cake. She didn't even want to blow out the candles or eat any. Oh well.

Birthday cookies from now on I guess.

(I really hope this makes someone else laugh because I was laughing so hard I was in tears when I saw my finished product... even now it makes me laugh looking at the stupid picture. My poor kids--I'm hopeless).

He treated us with his first smile yesterday.
We love having a little boy in our family.

Crazy Pregnant Lady

All day yesterday I felt on edge but held it together well. Then Joey got home from work and asked why I had put a certain box in the garage. All of a sudden I was yelling and bawling at him (pregnant brain translated the question into "you are lazy and worthless and should work harder and move and unpack the house by yourself in one day") Of course this is not what Joey meant... he has been super sympathetic and telling me to rest more and he has been doing practically everything by Himself. I think he is scared of me now. He said it is the maddest I have ever been at him in 10 years. I was doing the dishes while crying and he said he seriously thought I was going to throw the glass I picked up at him.
Then a half hour later at dinner the girls wanted to both sit by Joey at dinner (this is the case most nights). So they scooted their chairs by him and all three were on one side of the table and me alone on the other. Someone said something about no one sitting by mommy and I started BAWLING! I was also laughing underneath the sobs because I knew it was stupid and I didn't really care but I could not control myself! Savannah then came and sat by me and Nomi gave me a kiss & hug... then I knew I just needed to go to bed...
38 weeks pregnant today. Hang in there another week or so I keep telling myself!
(Like the self portrait? For some reason I think I look fairly cute when I see myself in the mirror but every picture taken of me I think looks so ugly. So I decided to try a picture in the mirror--in my new bathroom! Yes those are double sinks--a lifelong dream of ours! :)

Kindergarten

How did we get from here....
to the first day of kindergarten so fast???
Makes for a cute, excited girl and one slightly weepy mom!
I'm so proud of my grown-up, beautiful, smart girl!

Hair

So everyone has heard my sad tale of how my little Nomi cut her own hair.
So we had her wear headbands for a few months
And it grew little by little (nice & cool for summer right?)
It started to get a little longer in the back, but still too short in the front, so...
We went and got this adorable stack cut.
I think it is looking pretty cute-- just in time for preschool!

Bean Museum

We were feeling a little cooped up and bored this week
so I took the kids to the Bean Museum at BYU.
Free.
And they loved it!
Got to touch a snake.
They have pictures of animals to color and search for in the museum.
They loved having a scavenger hunt for them while there.
Really it only kept them entertained for about an hour,
but we got BYU ice cream after and it was a nice outing!

Strike a Pose

Lately Savannah has been striking these poses and then asks me to take pictures of her.
Not sure why I indulge her, but it kind of cracks me up :).

Just love this picture of my girls

Snowy Vacation

We had wanted to go to Phoenix and get warm for our vacation but for various reasons that didn't work out and we decided to go to my parents' cabin... (the opposite of warm:).
We hiked in with snowshoes and sleds. There was so much snow! And it snowed 2 of the 3 days we were there. Unfortunately the heater/furnace was broken inside the cabin. But we stuck it out and stayed cozy around the fireplace and used space heaters (when we woke up in the morning it was 45 degrees inside so we had to get that fireplace going ASAP!)
We had a nice relaxing time there. Joey and Savannah are the only brave ones to venture outside so there are only pictures of them. The girls loved the huge icicles hanging from the cabin porch. It was nice to be together as a family and enjoy the beautiful mountains.
